My dear friend Lisa’s sister Michelle (Mimi) Barnoski has been missing since last Tuesday (May 27). She was last seen driving her 1999 red Pontiac Sunfire away from her residence in Warkworth, Ontario. Her car was found abandoned in a secluded area west of County Rd. 25 across from Newman Road, south of Warkworth on May 29. Michelle is 5’4”, 150 lbs., medium build, fair to medium complexion, wavy medium length dyed red hair. She has a tattoo of a tiger playing with a butterfly on her left ankle. She was last seen wearing a camouflage coat and jeans. On Saturday, May 24 at the Ottawa Kennel Club show in Richmond, ON, Nina won Best of Breed (over a professionally-handled adult female, no less) and then went on to take group 4th in a group of 12 breeds. She earned 3 more championship points AND her first TOP DOG points (37). Thank you to judge John Rowton (who said Nina was “gorgeous”, even when she gave him a lovely sit at the end of our down and back…hey, we’re both learning!). I am so proud of my little girl, she showed wonderfully even though she’s out of coat and going through a gangly (for a short-legged dog) adolescent phase, AND has a newbie handler. Yeah Nina! On to Aurora next weekend!

She’d had enough by the time we got around to pictures, so this is far from the best picture ever taken of either of us (it was WINDY), but so what? And Nina is currently the number 2 Swedish Vallhund in Canada (*cough*cough*out of two) according to Best Dog In Canada:

Rejected Star Wars merchandise. (via Metafilter)

…I got a phone call telling me that my best friend of 26 years was dead, and that the cause was initially thought to be foul play, but after finding a note, is now thought to be suicide. It happened Thursday, and that’s really all I know at this point, his friend who called me said that they’d played last Sunday and he’d seemed if anything unusually cheerful and talkative - had he already decided at that point? Did something happen between then and Thursday? All I can think is that I can’t believe it, and that maybe there was something I shoulda woulda coulda done…but… I hadn’t talked to him in a while, we’d done a bit of phone/email tag but we had always had that kind of relationship, where we could pick it up and put it down, and neither of us were any good at keeping in touch by phone. I saw him last November, and he seemed like himself, although I know he wasn’t happy, and I didn’t think that the last time I saw him was going to be the last time I saw him. He sent me an email with a link to the Myspace page of a band he played in on February 25, and three days later he was gone.
