When Ulla Gamberg brought her first Swedish Vallhund Ebba to Canada from her home country of Sweden in 1993, she had no idea what an adventure she was embarking on. When she tried to register Ebba with the Canadian Kennel Club, she found that the breed was not fully recognized, but belonged to the miscellaneous class. She managed to shepherd this short-legged herding dog through to full recognition in 1995, founding the national breed club (The Swedish Vallhund Club of Canada) along the way.

As Canada's first Swedish Vallhund breeder, showing was a pretty lonely journey at first, but the breed's popularity throughout North America has slowly increased over the years. Vastgota dogs have traveled to many places (both in person and via frozen semen), including England, Sweden, Australia and the United States. In return (and to keep the Vastgota lines healthy), Ulla has imported dogs from the United States, England and Sweden. Vastgota dogs have enjoyed great international success as conformation, obedience and agility champions, herding dogs, and most importantly as wonderful family pets.

The Swedish Vallhund is a working farm dog, and Ulla strives to maintain the breed's appearance, temperament and character as such.

We do not dock tails or remove dewclaws.
